This trip is available year round. Please let us know your required dates DAY 1 We will meet you at the airport and transfer you directly in our private shuttle to your accommodation in Antigua where you will spend your first night. DAY 2 In the morning we begin the walk by visiting the city centre, the cathedral, and the palace of the Captain Generals. We continue, visiting the Merced Church, which is predominant for its yellow and white colouring, the most representative colonial monuments, such as the San Francisco Church, and finally, a Jade factory. The afternoon is free. (B) DAY 3 The first visit will be the town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Here you will find a textiles market which is one of the best places to buy good quality fabrics. You will be able to see the techniques used by the local weavers, including their weaving looms, with straps they have for support around their backs while they work. (B) DAY 4 A visit of the famous and colourful open air market of Chichicastenango, where you will find local handycrafts, vegetables, flowers and more, and will learn how to negotiate Mayan style. Many indigenous people come from the surrounding areas on market day, making it a day full of vibrant colours, voices and sounds. A paradise for photographers and bargain-hunters! (B) DAY 5 After breakfast we meet together in the hotel to take you on a complete tour of the towns around the lake: San Pedro La Laguna, Santiago Atitlan and San Antonio Palopo. You will enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake during a leisurely boat tour, including views of the three impressive volcanoes, Toliman, Atitlan and San Pedro. In San Juan you will be able to visit the cooperative of women weavers and observe how they elaborate their fabrics with natural dye. We continue the visit through the towns of Santiago, have lunch in a local hotel, and later visit the Mayan God Maximon, and learn about the textiles, spiritualism and beliefs of the T´zutijile Mayans. (B) DAY 6 Very early in the morning we leave Antigua for Guatemala City, to take an internal flight to Flores, Petén. We will visit the ruins, accompanied by the most extraordinary sounds of the jungle. The tour will take us across the "Q" complexes, the central acropolis, and temple IV. These are some of the areas of this great city in which you will discover about the ancient civilization's economic environment, their scientific and astronomical knowledge and the great respect they had for the fauna and for the flower. (B) DAY 7 The morning is free to wander around Tikal. Later, we travel over to the island of Flores. Flores is a small town surrounded by the Petén Itza lake. (B) DAY 8 Transfer by highway (approximately 3 ½ hours) near to the border with Belize, to the town of San Ignacio. San Ignacio is a key, filled with dense areas of forest, picturesque rivers, waterfalls and limestone caves, together with a people who embrace a diversity of cultures. (B) DAY 9 The morning is free so that you can simply enjoy the area. There are many guided activities, on foot or by horse, and the possibilities to go canoeing in the Macal river, cycling in the mountains, or on expeditions to caves along mountain paths, taking you to spectacular waterfalls. These are not included in the trip; they are optional. (B) DAY 10 This is a beautiful trip (approximately 5 hours) to Placencia. While we drive along the western highways you will see the Mayan countryside. Mile after mile these roads are full of citrus fruit trees, until the end of the freeway, parallel to the coast. (B) DAY 11 and 12 Days for your relaxation. There are many activities that you can enjoy such as snorkeling, scuba diving, bird-watching, walks through the forest, fishing and kayaking in Placencia. These activities are not included in the trip; they are optional. (B) DAY 13 We leave Placencia towards Belize City, via the highway (approximately 3 ½ hours), to Flores airport, where we take an internal flight to Guatemala city. (B) DAY 14 Transfer to the airport. Return home. (B) |
