This trip is available year round. Please let us know your required dates DAY 1 Reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Guatemala City. DAY 2 Departure by plane in the morning, to the Petén area, and on arrival, transfer by minibus to Sayaxché to board a boat. Aquatic trip on the La Pasión river, followed by a visit to the ruins of Ceibal. We continue downstream until we arrive at the lake of Petexbatún, a tropical paradise with hundreds of animals and archaeological sites hidden in the jungle. Accommodation in Petexbatún. (B) DAY 3 Breakfast. Navigation in the lagoon, trail by foot or by horseback through the jungle and a visit to the archaeological site of Dos Pilas. Return in the afternoon to Petexbatun. Accommodation in Petexbatún. (B) DAY 4 Breakfast. Navigation through the lake and La Pasión river, to Aguateca. 30 minute walk around the archaeological site of Aguateca. Later return to Petexbatun and in the evening to the area of Flores. Accommodation in Flores. (B) DAY 5 Departure early in the morning to the biggest Mayan city in history; the Mayan civilizations made the dense tropical forest of the Petén their home, Here, their most impressive astronomical, mathematical, architectural and artistic successes flourished. In the afternoon, return to Flores to board an internal flight to Guatemala City. Accommodation in Antigua. (B) DAY 6 During the morning, after breakfast, a tour of the beautiful colonial city, surrounded by three majestic volcanoes, during which the most important places in Antigua are visited. Accommodation in Antigua. (B) DAY 7 The following day in the morning, a visit to the great market of Chichicastenango, to make a trip to this spectacular and colorful market, only here can one truly experiment with the colours and the magic of the Mayan culture. Religious, catholic and prehispanic ceremonies take place in the cathedral. Later, during the afternoon, we head to Panajachel. Accommodation in Panajachel. (B) DAY 8 In the morning a (public) boat will take us to visit the town of Tzutuhil de Santiago. On this day we climb the Volcano Atitlan; the walk has duration of approximately 8 hours, through corn fields, humid forest and petrified lava. At the crater of the volcano we will have a unique and spectacular view of lake Atitlan and the countryside. After this hike we return to Panajachel. Accommodation in Panajachel. (B) DAY 9 Leave Panajachel heading to Huehuetenango, a city in the foothills of the tall Cuchumatane mountains. Accommodation in Los Cuchumatanes. (B) DAY 10 Our arrival to the town of San Juan Atitlan will be by means of a 4x4. The Mam families live in small towns. One hour walking will bring us right into the heart of these villages in which we can live alongside this indigenous community. At the end of this visit we transfer to Huehuetenango; accommodation here. (B) DAY 11 During these days of cohabiting with the Mam community we can observe and share with them their customs and their daily lives. This is one of the groups most strongly considered part of Mayan culture. Accommodation in Antigua. (B) DAY 12 Transfer to Guatemala City, direct to the international airport. (B) |
